Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Friday that all shipping linked to the ports of countries supporting or allied with Israel and the United States is banned, regardless of the route or destination.

It also said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, warning that any vessel attempting to pass through it will face strict action.

Media outlets reported that three container ships of different nationalities were turned back from the Strait of Hormuz following warnings issued by the Revolutionary Guard’s navy.

The war on Iran has led to an almost complete halt in shipments of about one fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas that normally pass through the Strait of Hormuz, causing disruptions to global oil supplies.

A Thai oil tanker was able to cross the strait safely after diplomatic coordination between Bangkok and Tehran. Meanwhile, Malaysia’s prime minister said that Malaysian vessels had been allowed to pass, indicating that restrictions on some countries were eased following diplomatic negotiations.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran had allowed ten oil tankers to pass through the strait as a goodwill gesture during negotiations, including several ships flying the Pakistani flag.
