Peace Council envoys meet Hamas in Cairo to uphold Gaza ceasefire
Three sources told Reuters that envoys from the Peace Council, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, met with representatives of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in Cairo in an effort to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza, which has been under severe pressure since the United States and Israel began bombing Iran.
The meeting, held earlier this week, is the first publicly announced encounter between Hamas and the Peace Council since the start of the war.
Following the meeting, Israel announced on Sunday that it would soon reopen the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, which has been closed since the bombing campaign on Iran began.

One source said they believe that Israel's announcement was a direct result of the meeting between Hamas and the Peace Council. The Peace Council, a new international body personally chaired by Trump, is tasked with overseeing the Gaza Strip after the war.
