On Wednesday, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered an official note to the Iranian Embassy in Qatar, stating that both the military attaché and the security attaché, along with their staff, are no longer welcome in the country and must leave within 24 hours.

This took place during a meeting today between Ibrahim Yousef Fakhro, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ali Saleh Abadi, Iran’s ambassador to Qatar.

The ministry explained that this decision comes in response to repeated Iranian attacks and the aggressive acts against Qatar, which violated its sovereignty and security, in clear breach of international law, United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and the principles of good neighborliness.

The ministry stressed that continued hostile actions by Iran will be met with additional measures by Qatar to ensure the protection of its sovereignty, security, and national interests, reaffirming that Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security in accordance with international law.

Attack on Ras Laffan

Earlier, QatarEnergy announced that the Ras Laffan industrial city was targeted by missile attacks in the evening.

The company stated that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to contain the fires caused by the attack, which resulted in significant damage. No casualties were reported.

In this context, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the “brutal Iranian attack” on the Ras Laffan industrial city, which caused fires and significant damage to the facility. The ministry described the attack as a serious escalation, a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, and a direct threat to its national security and regional stability.

The ministry emphasized that “despite Qatar’s efforts to remain neutral in this war from the beginning, and its commitment to avoid any escalation, Iran continues to target Qatar and neighboring countries in an irresponsible approach that undermines regional security and threatens international peace.”

The Qatari foreign ministry also stressed that “Qatar has repeatedly called for the protection of civilian and energy facilities, including those within the Islamic Republic of Iran, to safeguard the resources of regional populations and preserve international peace and security. Yet Iran continues its escalatory policies, pushing the region toward the brink and dragging countries not involved in this crisis into the conflict.”

The ministry confirmed that the attack constitutes a breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 and renewed its call for the council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, taking the necessary measures to stop these serious violations, and holding the perpetrators accountable.

The ministry further reiterated that “Qatar reserves the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and the right to self-defense guaranteed under international law,” stressing that it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
