Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he ordered the Israeli army to strike targets in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Netanyahu said in a joint statement with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz that the decision came following continued violations by Hezbollah and the targeting of our cities and citizens.

Annahar observed displacement movements from the southern suburbs of Beirut following Netanyahu’s orders to bomb the area.

For its part, Israeli Channel 14 reported that Netanyahu’s orders to target the southern suburbs were carried out in coordination with the United States.

According to the Hebrew channel, the Israeli army is expected to issue evacuation orders in the southern suburbs of Beirut soon.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu said: “Our soldiers are now operating deep inside Lebanese areas to defend Israel’s security, and this will continue until the mission is completed.”

Earlier today, Axios reported, citing sources, that US efforts to end the war in Lebanon had failed, at a time when Israel is expanding its ground incursion and seeking US approval to carry out large-scale strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut.

Axios also quoted Israeli officials as saying that Israel has asked the Trump administration to allow it to carry out major strikes in Beirut.

This escalation in Beirut comes following the expansion of the ground operation in southern Lebanon and the Israeli army’s control of the strategic historic Qalaat Al-Shaqif (Beaufort Castle).

Iran continues to stress its supportive stance toward Hezbollah, linking any agreement to end the war with the United States to Lebanon. In the latest statements, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an integral part of any agreement to end the war with the United States.

He added that the lack of trust, the constant shifting of US positions, and Israel’s actions in Lebanon are causing delays in the diplomatic process.
