Iraq launches “Establishing Sovereignty” desert security operation across Najaf–Karbala axis

Major coordinated sweep involving Popular Mobilization Forces and Iraqi Army aims to secure key desert routes and stabilize the Karbala–Al-Nakhib road corridor.

Major General Ali Al-Hamdani, Commander of the Middle Euphrates Operations in the Popular Mobilization Authority, announced the launch of the “Establishing Sovereignty” operations in the Najaf and Karbala desert across four axes, with the aim of securing the road linking Karbala and the Al-Nakhib area, indicating that the operation is being carried out under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and supervised by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Abdul Amir Yarallah.

Al-Hamdani explained that the operation’s axes include the Middle Euphrates Operations Command, the Sacred Karbala Operations Command, and the Anbar Operations Command in the Popular Mobilization Authority, in addition to the Second Brigade in the mobilization, noting that the participating forces are conducting inspection and sweeping operations to a depth of up to 70 kilometers, according to precise military plans and with a high level of professionalism.
