The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, in cooperation with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, announced the completion of the implementation of the “Tourist Identity Initiative.” This initiative allows nonresident visitors to open digital bank accounts instantly and securely, based on a trusted digital identity.

This step represents a significant shift in the path of digital transformation and the enhancement of financial inclusion in the United Arab Emirates. It provides visitors with a digital identity immediately upon arrival in the country, using advanced technologies developed by the authority, including biometric data and facial recognition.

The initiative, through linking the authority’s platform with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s smart application, provides an integrated digital banking experience. It enables visitors to open their accounts within minutes and immediately access essential banking services, including digital debit cards.

This step is part of the country’s broader direction toward establishing a fully integrated digital economy by expanding the use of digital payment solutions, strengthening consumer protection, and reducing reliance on cash. This, in turn, reinforces the UAE’s position as an advanced financial hub at both the regional and global levels.
